That's life....

"SHIPROCK" AKA "THE ROSE PAUSON HOUSE"
Rose wanted something that she could afford, and F.L. Wright wanted what he had envisioned; nevertheless, both wanted a showplace, eventually. Rose was busy, in San Francisco, and rented the finished masterpiece to tenants, who disillusioned both Rose & Frank, when the place went up in flames. The renters left the windows open (and probably a door for a cross draft) while a fire was still going, in the fireplace.  The story is heartbreaking πŸ’”.  A live piece of coal, from a nearby fireplace, sent the delicate hand made curtains ablaze. I can only imagine, but it could have been a Phoenix monsoon that blew through that house, on that day. Below, there are correspondence letters between the two. Keep in mind, that Rose Pauson was a painter, and she was sold on Wright's vision of the house that he was designing, which was a ship. Also, Rose's sister Gertrude Pauson was a landscape designer, and she would be living at the residence, as well. They lived there for one season, because the house was destroyed by that fire.  It's ironic that the only thing left is the chimney. πŸ˜’ The second picture, is a remnant of the Rose Pauson House chimney. It's now a landmark, and it's still called "Shiprock".

The words, written in those letters, are so colorful - that I wish someone would write them into a screenplay, and make it into a movie. There was a play performed at Scottsdale College  (my old haunt). (Celebrities, and other notable alumni, are listed here): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Scottsdale_Community_College_alumni You can read more about the play HERE:  https://www.luxepros.com/lifestyle/march-modness:-discussing-modern-phoenix-week-rachel-simmons  AND HERE:  https://scottsdale.com/events/view/eb/43037664814  Also, the one act play was based on a book by: Allan Wright Green, and that book should be a good read. May Rose Pauson, her sister Gertrude, and Frank Lloyd Wright, all respectfully rest in peace. Rose Pauson is Allan Wright Green's Great Aunt, and there are more letters, like those 2, in the book. You can get the book: "Building the Pauson House: The Letters of Frank Lloyd Wright and Rose Pauson", by Allan Wright Green, at Amazon.
